Greek funerary wreath, 320-300 BC, gold and glass paste.
Evidence of wear and repair suggest that [the funerary wreath] was worn before being included in a burial. The gold circlet is hinged in the front with a Herakles (square) knot, a popular motif that was believed to have magical qualities.

Harpist. Greek Virgins series (1900). Raphael Kirchner (Austrian, Art Nouveau, 1876-1917). Publisher Theodor Stroefer. Lithograph with metallic pigment on card stock. Postcard.
Kirchner produced over a thousand published paintings and drawings, mostly in the form of picture postcards. Kirchner’s often mildly erotic paintings of feminine beauty, in convenient postcard and magazine page form, were among the early pin-ups favored by European and American soldiers in WW I.
“Every day I spend so much time in front of a glowing screen that sometimes I forget I possess five bodily senses and not just one or two. Making art makes me conscious of my hands again,” writes Elise Wehle in her artist statement. The repetitive action of folding an cutting makes her creative process a sort of meditation — a way to cultivate a sense of being present in the moment. Wehle works with found photographs, prints and her own original drawings, subtracting elements with a blade to create delicate constellations of negative space within the images. This coming weekend, art and design duo Kozyndan are opening their solo show “End of Summer Never Ends” at LA’s Giant Robot 2 —perhaps an ode to their home city of Los Angeles with its enviably-nice weather. It has been years since the artists have exhibited in LA, so the exhibition marks a homecoming from their world travels (recently, they did a touring solo show in several Australian cities). Much of Kozyndan’s past work has been focused on animals, especially marine life, but this series of paintings, digital artworks and sculptures examines the humans who wade and frolic on the seashore. The artists have invited Leah Chun to participate in the show as a collaborator and guest artist. Take a look at some of the work in the show here: http://hifructose.com/2013/09/04/preview-kozyndans-end-of-summer-never-ends-at-giant-robot-2/ and see the exhibition September 7 through 25.
